According to some sources, Spanish League giants FC Barcelona are ready to try “again” for Atletico Madrid superstar, Antoine Griezmann.
The Frenchman who also won the World Cup last year, has been on the constant lookout for trophies in Europe, which has eluded Atletico Madrid so far this season. They were the Europa League champions last year, but they have not been able to improve upon that so far this season.
Atletico was knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday, losing their round-of-16 second leg to Juventus 3-0 thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s hattrick. They had a 2-0 lead at the end of the first leg in February, but with the eventual aggregate score reading 3-2, they had no option but to head for the exit door.
They further lost yesterday’s La Liga game to Atletic Bilbao by 2-0, slipping in their chase for a potential La Liga title. At 56 points from 28 games, they are seven points behind league leaders Barcelona who have 63 points from a game less.
All this has, in turn, prompted Griezmann to contemplate on his future at the club, and French newspaper L’Equipe estimates that his current release clause of £200million will lower down to £120million – a more reasonable sale price as far as the Blaugranas are concerned – in June.
“The Decision” as the first round of Barca-Atleti negotiations on the World Champion last year was popularly called, had even inspired a television series of the same name, before Barcelona withdrew their interests on him, as per Marca‘s reports.
