Plenty of eyebrows were raised when former Juventus and Italy forward Sebastian Giovinco moved to Saudi Arabia at the start of the year by joining Al Hilal.

The pint-sized attacker, nicknamed “atomic ant” had won two Serie A titles with Juventus and also had loan spells with Empoli and Parma, before signing for Toronto FC in 2015 to become Major League Soccer’s highest-paid player.

After four seasons where he consistently starred in the competition, Giovinco made Asia his next port of call and scored on his debut back in February in a 4-1 triumph over Al Qadsiah.

However, it is in the AFC Champions League where Al Hilal really wanted a player of Giovinco’s ilk and – having already impressed with his playmaking ability in the previous three matches – he finally got off the mark on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old proved to be the match winner as he netted the only goal of the game in the 51st minute, and it was certainly a strike worthy of deciding the contest.

Dropping a step behind the play to receive the ball outside the area, Giovinco took a moment to steady before unleashing a rocket that flew past Hossein Hosseini at the near post.

With the win, Al Hilal are currently top of Group C with two matches remaining and can secure their place in the Round of 16 in their next outing against Al Ain on May 6.
