On Matchday 4 of this week in the AFC Champions League 2019 group stages, Group E member Johor Darul Ta’zim will take Shandong Luneng.
Darul Ta’zim made their AFC Champions League debut in the tournament’s 2019 edition and have not won a single match in the three matches played during the group stages. Owing to the same, they currently reside at the bottom of the table whereas Shandong Luneng resides in the second position. In their impending encounter, both teams will look to walk away with three points to go up in the table and increase their chances of reaching the knockout stage.
In their previous match, Shandong Luneng defeated JDT by 2-1 but that was not enough for the head coach Li Xiao Peng who wants his team to work harder in the next match. Talking about JDT’s strength, he said, “It’s another group game for us and very important to decide if we can pass the group. We need to play with our style and play with our quality to earn our position in the group. Everyone is fit and available so we’ll be able to use our best XI.”
“After one match against our opponent, we have a better understanding of them. They keep the ball very well and are dangerous going forward. But we will play with our style and show our ability tomorrow”, he added.
JDT head coach Benjamin Mora, on the other hand, has his fair share of concerns regarding Mauricio dos Santos which can possibly keep him out of this crucial encounter. Addressing the injury he said, “He (Mauricio) started to train slowly yesterday. It’s not very severe what he has. He’s recovering minute by minute but we’ll have to see how his condition is in training and see what’s best for him and the club.”
“But we have some players who are very tired and some small pains which came from the packed schedule in April because we played in three parallel competitions. Who have to see who is in the best shape and condition to play”, Mora clarified further. JDT Captain Hariss Harun is extremely proud of his team’s performance and has urged them to believe in themselves in their upcoming AFC Champions League match.
Can JDT pull off a surprising win over Shandong Luneng tomorrow or will the latter be walking out victorious, yet again?
