AFC Champions League 2019: Sebastian Giovinco winner puts Al Hilal in the driver’s seat in Group C

Al Hilal ACL

Sebastian Giovinco scored the only goal of the game as 10-man Al Hilal FC defeated IR Iran’s Esteghlal FC 1-0 to establish a stronghold in Group C of the AFC Champions League 2019.

Former Juventus star Giovinco scored with a stunning strike from outside the box in the 51st minute to give the Saudi Pro League side another win that took them to nine points from four matches at the top of Group C with two games left.

However, a second yellow card for forward Nawaf Al Abed soon after the goal went in put Al Hilal under pressure towards the later stages of the game as they scraped past the finish line with numerical disadvantage.

Al Duhail record second win as Al Ain on verge of elimination

Qatar Stars League side Al Duhail, meanwhile, recorded their second win of the group stage as they defeated UAE Pro League outfit Al Ain FC 2-0 at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain.

The visitors went ahead through AFC Asian Cup 2019 golden boot winner Almoez Ali in the third minute before Youssef Al-Arabi made it 2-0 in the 66th minute. The defeat meant that Al Ain are still winless in the ACL this season.

The UAE club are bottom of the table with just two points after four games — two points behind third-placed Esteghlal who have four from as many matches. Al Duhail sit second with seven points while Al Hilal have nine points in their kitty.
